Millions of voters will cast their ballots in the US primaries today ahead of the Presidential Election on November 5th. Known as Super Tuesday, the Republican Party will hold primaries in 15 states and the Democratic Party in 16 states. These include California and Texas, the most populous states in the US.
Of the 2,429 delegates who will decide the Republican Party’s presidential nominee, 874 will be elected today. In the Democratic Party, this number is at least 1420. Therefore, Super Tuesday is important in terms of clarifying the presidential candidates.
After the Republican Party primaries so far, former President Donald Trump has 244 delegates, while his rival Nikki Haley, former US Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has 43.
Haley is not given much of a chance against Trump’s candidacy. But if Haley chooses to stay in the race, voting will continue until June 2024.
Trump’s campaign team predicts that the former president will win at least 773 delegates today and that Trump’s presidential candidacy will be finalized by the end of March.
