A 49-year-old man died at the Military Recruitment Center in Ternopil Region of Ukraine. While the Ternopil Special Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the cause of death, the man, who had bruises all over his body, was suffering from epilepsy.

In Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine, a 49-year-old man arrived at the recruitment center on 25 February to verify his military registration documents and undergo a medical examination. He failed the medical examination due to alcohol intoxication.

Two days later, on February 27, the conscript’s health deteriorated while in the center, The Kyiv Independent reported. He began having convulsions, fell to the ground and eventually hit his head. He was reportedly suffering from epilepsy and his body was covered in bruises.

The Ternopil Special Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the possibility that the behavior of the center’s employees exceeded their official authority.

Last year, a commander of the security department at the Ternopil Military Registration Office was accused of torture.

The investigation into the death of the conscript is ongoing.
