The White House released Biden’s written statement on the issue.
Biden stated that these Chinese-made “smart cars”, which are said to be able to collect sensitive information due to national security concerns due to connecting to phones, will be investigated.
Stating that China is “determined to dominate the auto market through unfair means,” Biden said, “China’s policies could flood our market with its own cars. This poses a risk to our national security. I will not allow such a thing to happen.”
Biden noted that he had instructed the Commerce Department to investigate vehicles with technology from countries “causing concern” such as China and to take the necessary measures.
In another statement, the White House said Chinese “smart cars” could cause new vulnerabilities and threats if they access data.
In a statement made by the US Department of Commerce, it was reported that an investigation was launched on the issue.
