Filmmaker Ridley Scott is in talks to direct a movie about the hit band Bee Gees, new reports have claimed.

The trio of British-Australian brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb were one of the best-selling bands of all time and will soon be honored with a film about their lives and careers.

Director Scott, whose last film was Napoleon, which was released in theaters at the end of last year, is said to be producing the film with Graham King, Stacey Snider and Michael Pruss.

Deadline reports that John Logan, who wrote Scott’s 2000 blockbuster Gladiator, will pen the script.

Since their formation in 1958, the “Kings of Disco” have sold more than 120 million records worldwide, including the hit singles Stayin’ Alive, More Than A Woman and How Deep Is Your Love.

After Robin’s twin brother Maurice died of cardiac arrest in 2003 at the age of 53, the remaining members of the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, retiring the band’s name after 45 years of activity.

In 2009, Robin announced that he and Barry would perform again under the name Bee Gees. Three years later, in May 2012, Robin died at the age of 62 after various health problems, leaving Barry as the only surviving member of the group.

According to the broadcaster, Barry Gibb will serve as executive producer on the new film.

Currently, Scott is wrapping production on Gladiator 2, starring Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal.

Released over 20 years ago, the sequel to the first film is set to hit theaters at the end of 2024.

Bee Gees marks a departure from Scott’s previous typical work in the sci-fi and historical drama genres.

The film will be distributed by Paramount, which owns the rights to the Gibb family’s classic songs as well as details about their lives.

The Independent has contacted Ridley Scott’s representatives for comment but has not yet received a response.
