Austin said he was outraged and deeply saddened by last night’s attack on US and Coalition forces deployed in northeast Jordan, near the Syrian border, which killed three US soldiers and wounded others.
“Iranian-backed militias are responsible for attacks on US forces, and we will respond when and where we choose,” Secretary Austin said.

Stating that he and US President Joe Biden will not tolerate attacks against American forces, Austin said, “We will take all necessary steps to defend the United States, our troops and our interests.”
US President Joe Biden announced that 3 US soldiers were killed in a one-way drone attack on the US military base on the Jordan-Syria border. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) also announced that 25 people were injured in the attack.
The Jordanian government, on the other hand, announced that the attack on the US forces did not take place on its territory, but at the Tenef base on the Syrian border.
