The Lost City, a 2022 comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, has topped Netflix’s UK movie chart.

In the film, Bullock plays author Loretta Page, who is kidnapped by a malevolent billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) in pursuit of a monumental archaeological discovery. Tatum, on the other hand, plays a clueless actor who stars in adaptations of Sage’s books.

It overtook a number of widely promoted Netflix originals, including Kevin Hart’s heist thriller Lift and Daniel Kaluuya’s sci-fi drama The Kitchen, to take the number one spot in the streaming platform’s rankings.

Brad Pitt, who plays a contractor hired by Tatum to rescue Bullock’s character, also appears in The Lost City.

While viewers shared their reactions to the movie on social media, some praised the romantic comedy as an “underappreciated” gem.

“Comedy with Channing Tatum is one of my favorite genres,” wrote one person.

From The Lost City to [High School Cops (21 Jump Street)], he’s hilarious! Way to go man. @channingtatum Also for me #thelostcity is an underrated movie; Sandy & Channing & Brad? Name a more iconic trio…

Someone else said, “I watched Lost City on Netflix today. It was a funny and good movie… I would love to see a sequel.”

Whether it’s High School Cops or Strip Club (Magic Mike), Tatum has spent his entire career perfecting this kind of himbo (attractive but unintelligent male – cf. And in The Lost City, he’s finally matched with his ideal opposite: Sandra Bullock, the actress you look for to play highly intelligent women who can’t seem to get their lives in order, and she plays this character in a relatable way rather than a bossy one.
Directed by brothers Adam and Aaron Nee, the film is presented as a 21st century remake of Robert Zemeckis’ romantic comedy adventure film Romancing the Stone, but it is actually a project that attracts A-list leads like a barnacle to a ship.
