The jury in the long-running trial in New York announced its verdict on Trump today.
The jury sentenced Trump to pay a total of $83.3 million in damages, citing the former US President’s damage to author Carroll’s reputation.
Upon learning of the verdict, Carroll hugged his lawyer and rejoiced, while Trump said on his account on the social media platform Truth Social, “This is complete nonsense. I don’t agree with this decision in any way. This is not America.”

“Rape and insult” case
Tabloid writer E. Jean Carroll, 80, said Trump raped her in the dressing room of Bergdorf Goodman in New York in the spring of 1996, and Trump denied the allegations.
Trump was found guilty by a jury in May 2023 after two weeks of hearings in the “rape and defamation” case brought by Caroll.
The jury reported that Trump should pay Carroll a total of 5 million dollars in damages, 2 million dollars for sexual harassment and battery and 3 million dollars for defamation.
After his first legal victory, Carroll filed a second “damages” lawsuit against Trump for $10 million in addition to the $5 million he had won, and on September 6, 2023, the judge found Trump liable again.
In the “damages” trial that began in New York on January 16, the 9-person jury will only decide on the amount of damages Trump will pay.
