Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, SpaceX and X, allegedly used drugs at company events, which worried company executives.
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Musk has used LSD, cocaine, ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms at parties around the world.
People who spoke to the newspaper said they witnessed Musk’s drug use, but that those who attended these parties signed confidentiality agreements and handed over their phones when entering the party.
Musk had previously smoked marijuana in a live broadcast and admitted to using ketamine to combat depression.

The WSJ reported that Musk took LSD at a party in Los Angeles in 2018, consumed a hallucinogenic drug called magic mushrooms in Mexico the following year, and took ketamine with his brother Kimbal Musk at a house party in Miami in 2021.
Alex Spiro, a spokesperson for the businessman, who holds US, Canadian and South African passports, told the newspaper that Musk regularly takes drug tests, all of which come back clean. Stating that there were “other inaccuracies” in the news, Spiro did not share any details about them.
In the news, it was stated that company executives noticed the change in Musk’s behavior during his speech to hundreds of SpaceX employees in 2017. Allegedly, suspicions that Musk, who made a “strange and incoherent” speech in front of SpaceX employees, was using drugs increased.
A witness to the speech said Musk gave a “ridiculous, insane and embarrassing” speech for 15 minutes, after which SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell intervened and took over the microphone.
The article emphasized that Musk’s drug use was a violation of SpaceX’s contracts with the US government worth a total of 14 billion dollars.
Musk’s use of marijuana in a live broadcast with podcaster Joe Rogan in 2018 caused controversy, and the value of Tesla shares fell 9 percent after the broadcast.
Musk, the richest person in the world, had previously attributed some of his unusual behaviors to lack of sleep and also stated that he suffered from bipolar disorder.
“I really don’t like using illegal drugs,” the tech billionaire said in a statement for his biography written by Walter Isaacson last year.
