Why has Denmark postponed the delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine?
Denmark was scheduled to deliver its first 6 aircraft at the beginning of the new year

Danish media, citing the Ministry of Defense, reported that the Copenhagen administration will postpone the supply of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine for several months.

Citing the Ministry of Defense, Berlinske newspaper reported that Denmark, one of the largest contributors of equipment to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses, was scheduled to deliver the first 6 aircraft at the beginning of the new year, but that these fighter jets will be delivered in the second quarter of the year.

The newspaper quoted the ministry as saying that the delivery schedule ‘always depends on the fulfillment of a number of conditions’. These conditions include the successful training of Ukrainian pilots, as well as the availability of sufficient logistics and infrastructure in Ukraine to service the aircraft.

Last August, the Danish Prime Minister pledged to send 19 F-16 fighters to Kiev as part of an allied effort to provide Ukraine with advanced weapons to overcome the Russian invasion.

According to Berlingske newspaper, there are currently 6 Ukrainian pilots receiving advanced fighter jet training in Denmark.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly requested F-16 fighter jets to help his country counter Russia’s air superiority.
