Pro-Khalistan graffiti was found on a Hindu temple in Hayward, California

The Sherawali Temple in Hayward, California, has been vandalized with pro-Khalistan graffiti, only weeks after a similar incident with anti-India graffiti at the Swaminarayan Temple in Newark, California. The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) reported the defacement, underlining the importance of increased security.

The Hindu American Foundation posted a photo of the damaged Sherawali Temple on X, captioning it, “#Breaking: Another Bay Area Hindu temple attacked with pro-Khalistan graffiti.” Just two weeks after the Swaminarayan Mandir attack and one week after a robbery at the Shiv Durga temple in the same region, the Vijay’s Sherawali Temple in Hayward, CA, was defaced. HAF is in communication with temple leaders, as well as @AlamedaPD and others.

Concerned about the growing threat, the Hindu American Foundation emphasized the significance of establishing operational security cameras and alarm systems. The organization advised temple officials to download the @HinduAmerican temple safety handbook, citing the growing threat posed by Khalistan supporters as well as the ongoing threat posed by anti-Hindu actors.

In December, suspected pro-Khalistan radicals damaged the Swaminarayan temple in Newark, California, with anti-India graffiti. The Newark Police Department launched an investigation into the event, classifying it as a hate crime. The authorities, including the United States State Department, denounced the destruction and backed the Newark Police Department’s attempts to bring the offenders responsible.

In reaction to these heartbreaking vandalism acts, the Hindu American Foundation continues to fight for more security and vigilance within the Hindu temple community.
