Elon Musk Announces Tesla Will Produce Affordable Electric Cars

The Washington Post (WP), one of the leading newspapers in the US, wrote that tech billionaire Elon Musk is “facing his biggest test” in the strike wave that started at the Tesla factory in Sweden and quickly spread to other Northern European countries.

In the news article, it was pointed out that the strike, which has been going on for about 6 weeks, has spread from Sweden to Norway, Finland and Denmark, and the actions were described as “a test to break Musk’s strict anti-union policy”.

“Elon Musk is unwilling to make a deal in Sweden because he fears it will lead to similar strikes in other countries, even in the US,” said Jan Villadsen, head of the 3F union, which represents nearly 50,000 shipyard and truck drivers in Denmark.

According to WP, protests against the electric car giant could also come from automotive unions in Germany and the US.

Since October 27, 130 technicians from IF Metall, one of Sweden’s largest unions, have been on strike at 8 Tesla factories in Sweden.

Janis Kuzma, one of the workers participating in the strike, said that he has been working at the Tesla factory since 2021 and that his demands were not accepted in the latest raise negotiations, which is why he decided to support the strike.

Anders Linde from PostNord, the Swedish state-owned postal organization, said, “If you come to Sweden, you have to abide by the rules. We have fought for generations to win these conditions, so we are not going to give up our rights and leave.”

Linde also said that some Tesla drivers are putting stickers on the rear windshield of their cars that say “I bought my Tesla before Elon was full of shit.”

“I am worried about Tesla’s image in Sweden,” said Tibor Blömhall, president of Tesla Club Sweden, which represents about 17,000 Tesla owners in Sweden.

Blömhall said, “IF Metall is extremely stubborn, and it is known that Musk is too. They have dug the trenches and nobody is giving up.”

Tesla CEO Musk and the company declined requests for comment, WP reported.

Following the strike, the American company filed a lawsuit on November 27 against PostNord and the Swedish Transport Authority for refusing to carry Tesla license plates. The company had asked for the plates to be collected and returned from the market.

In the interim decision announced on December 7 in the trial in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, it was reported that there was no need to send the license plates to the company until the legal process was completed.
