Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), posted on his X social media account about what happened at Kemal Advan Hospital.

“We are appalled by the impressive destruction of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza over the past few days, rendering it non-functional and resulting in the deaths of at least 8 patients,” Ghebreyesus said, adding that a number of health workers were reportedly detained.

Emphasizing that WHO and its partners urgently requested information on the condition of these detainees, Ghebreyesus said, “We learned that many patients had to evacuate themselves at great risk to their health and safety as ambulances could not reach the facility. Many of the patients who died, including a 9-year-old child, died due to lack of adequate health care.”

Ghebreyesus also mentioned that they are extremely worried about the health condition of the displaced people reportedly sheltering in the hospital building and said: “Gaza’s health system was already collapsed and the loss of another minimally functioning hospital is a serious blow to the health system. The attacks on hospitals, medical staff and patients must stop. Ceasefire now.”

The Israeli army raided Kemal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya city in the northern Gaza Strip on December 12, detained 90 people and announced its withdrawal.

Palestinian journalist Anas al-Sharif, who entered the hospital after the Israeli troops withdrew, said on his account on the X platform, “Dozens of displaced people, sick and wounded were buried alive while they were still alive.”
