Sydney Sweeney, star of HBO’s acclaimed drama Euphoria, says she was bitten by a spider while filming her new movie Anyone But You in Australia.

Directed by Will Gluck, director of acclaimed romantic comedies such as Easy A and Friends With Benefits, the film stars Sweeney and Glen Powell as two people who pretend to be a couple at an Australian wedding despite hating each other.

The cast of Anyone But You includes the 27-year-old star of Euphoria and Reality, Powell, who was notable in Top: Gun Maverick, as well as Alexandra Shipp, GaTa, Michelle Hurd, Dermot Mulroney, Rachel Griffiths and Bryan Brown.

“It hurt so much”

Ahead of Anyone But You’s release date, Sweeney was a guest on the chat show Live with Kelly and Mark, where he talked about being bitten by a hunting spider during filming.

It was a real spider. It bit me. It was a hunting spider. It bit me when we were shooting that scene. It hurt so bad, I had horrible marks on my hand. I had to take pills and stuff, because in Australia anything can kill you.

“Glen was the only one who understood”

Sweeney was also a guest on the Today Show with Powell, and the two elaborated on the scene:

The spider actually bit me in the middle of the scene but nobody wanted it to be cut because they thought I made a very dramatic, interesting choice in this scene. In the end Glen was the only one who understood, they thought I was acting but he actually bit me.

Powell, 35, also spoke about the moment his co-star was bitten:

When someone is actually bitten by a spider, they have a different tone in their voice. We thought it was a really dramatic improvisation.

Anyone But You will be released in the US on December 22nd.
