The critical NATO Summit, where the eyes of the whole world turned, has begun. While critical meetings continued at the summit, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg said, “We will invite Ukraine for NATO membership.”
NATO Leaders Summit started today in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made statements in front of the cameras after the first day. “We will extend an invitation to Ukraine for NATO membership,” Stoltenberg said.
Stoltenberg’s statements are as follows;
“Today NATO allies agreed on a strong and positive message. We agreed to bring Ukraine closer to NATO.
“WE WILL SEND AN INVITATION TO UKRAINE FOR MEMBERSHIP”
Once the conditions are met, we will send Ukraine an invitation to join NATO. Our number one agenda now is Ukraine’s survival. If this cannot be achieved, we cannot talk about NATO membership.
“WE AGREED ON A PACKAGE”
We are working in close contact with our NATO allies and Ukrainian authorities. With the package we will present tomorrow, Ukraine will be one step closer to NATO. The package we will present to Ukraine is a practical support and a roadmap. Of course, we are also sending a strong political message. There is also concrete military support. If you look at the whole membership process, there is no timetable. Everything depends on conditions.
“THE FULL MEMBERSHIP OF BOTH SWEDEN AND FINLAND IS A HISTORIC MESSAGE”
The full membership of both Sweden and Finland is a historic message. It is also an important development for the Baltic region. With Sweden becoming a full member, of course this will be reflected in our military plans. The Baltic Sea will become much more secure.
Ukraine has now gone beyond the action plan. This shows how close it is to NATO. We are already integrated with Ukraine. “
