US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Milley says the risk of conflict between Russia and NATO is real.
The risk of an escalation of an armed conflict between NATO and Russia is real, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley told Foreign Affairs magazine.
“NATO and the United States do not want war with Russia, but the possibility of escalation is very real. Ukraine is not in favor of escalation either,” Milley said.
Milley said the threat of escalation stems from the fact that “wars are highly emotional,” adding, “Every day we calculate the possibility of escalation in every action we take or every Russian action we take, because the consequences of escalation are very severe and the consequences of an armed conflict between the United States and Russia or NATO and Russia would be devastating for both sides.
