The Italian government has claimed that the Russian mercenary group Wagner is behind an increase in migrants attempting to cross the Central Mediterranean.
The Italian government claimed that the Wagner group carried out these operations as part of Moscow’s plan to retaliate against countries supporting Ukraine.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto pointed out that this is a “hybrid war strategy”.
“We have no idea what is happening to the migrant crisis, we are not interested in it,” Wagner director Yevgeny Prigozhin said on his Telegram channel.
According to figures from the Italian Interior Ministry, the number of migrants has reached 20,000 this year, compared to 6,100 in the same period last year. This puts pressure on the right-wing government in the country.
