The Russian Defense Ministry reported that two Tu-95MS strategic bombers, accompanied by Su-35S jets, carried out a planned flight over the international waters of the Chukchi Sea, located between Russia and Alaska.

“Two Tu-95MS strategic bombers of the Russian Long-Range Air Force conducted a scheduled flight over the neutral waters of the Chukchi Sea. The flight lasted about 7 hours. Fighter protection was provided by the crews of Su-35S fighters of the Russian Aerospace Forces,” the statement reads.
The commander of the Long-Range Air Force, Sergey Kobylash, noted that “the flight was carried out in strict compliance with the rules for the use of international airspace.
Long-Range Air Force aircraft regularly fly over the Arctic Ocean, the north of the Atlantic Ocean, the Black and Baltic Seas and the Pacific Ocean.
According to open sources, Alaska is home to a US air base and air defense missiles.
