Record fines totaling 520 million dollars for Fortnite
Fortnite was sued for manipulating users, especially children, with its interface and design to make purchases. As a result of the lawsuit, the popular video game Fortnite was fined $275 million for privacy violations.

In addition to this fine, Fortnite will also refund $245 million to former users for manipulating children about in-app purchases. In other words, Fortnite will pay a total of 520 million dollars in refunds and fines for these reasons.

Epic Games made the following statements on the subject:

“No developer creates a game with the intention of ending up here. We agreed to this settlement because we want Epic to be at the forefront of consumer protection and provide the best experience for our players.”

Epic Games has addressed the issues with the lawsuit. The game production and development company introduced “Booth Accounts” to disable residual purchases for players under the age of 13. The company also introduced parental controls in 2019 and made it free last year. In addition, the company will delete the data of users who are not verified to be 13 years old or older due to the lawsuit.
