People in Ukraine light up with candles

1 min read

Due to the recent missile attacks by the Russian military against critical energy infrastructures in Ukraine, people in some regions where power outages continue, find the solution by lighting candles.

Water and electricity cuts continue in some cities, towns and villages in Ukraine due to the attacks of Russian forces.

On November 23, the city of Dnipro, which was plunged into complete darkness as a result of Russian attacks, was partially restored to electricity today. In neighborhoods where there is no electricity, some people illuminate their homes using generators or batteries. Most civilians light up their dark houses with candles.

“There is no water, it came in the morning and was cut off again. There is no electricity either, but I use candles.”

Galiya, 74, who did not give her surname for security reasons, said that they have been without electricity and water for several days as a result of Russian attacks. Galiya stated that they are trying to get used to the situation despite all the difficulties and said, “There is no water, it came in the morning and was cut off again. There is no electricity, but I use candles. There are enough candles for now.”

Galiya said that she converts domestic water into drinking water by passing it through sterile gauze, adding that she learned this method from her mother many years ago.
