The lunar eclipse will be visible from Asia, Australia, North and South America and parts of Northern and Eastern Europe today.
The eclipse, which will not be visible from Turkey, will begin at 11:02 am Turkish time with the Moon entering the Earth’s penumbra.
The Moon will start to enter the Earth’s shadow cone at 12.09 pm and will enter it completely at 13.17 pm, reaching the middle of the eclipse at 13.59 pm and will be seen in copper color.
The total eclipse will be completed at 14.41 pm. The Moon will exit the penumbra at 15.52 and the eclipse will end.
How does the eclipse happen?
As the Moon orbits around the Earth, it occasionally enters the Earth’s shadow. During these transits, which take place during the full moon phase, the brightness of the Moon decreases as some or all of the light it receives from the Sun is blocked by the Earth.
This event is called a lunar eclipse.
A lunar eclipse can occur in three ways: partial, total or penumbral eclipses.
During a total eclipse, the Moon enters the cone of shadow and the Earth’s shadow falls completely on the Moon.
In a blood moon eclipse, the Sun’s rays are blocked from reaching the Moon, so the Moon is illuminated only by the light reflected from the Earth’s atmosphere through a blue filter, which gives it a red appearance.
