A new hurricane is expected to be effective in the US state of Florida. A regional state of emergency has been declared as part of measures to minimize possible flooding and destruction.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in 34 counties of the state after the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced that storm Nicole, approaching from the Bahama Islands, is likely to reach the state of Florida on November 9 and turn into a severe hurricane.

The NHC said the hurricane, which is likely to reach the mainland just after the midterm elections in the US on November 8, is expected to be effective from Hallandale Beach north of Miami and on the Atlantic Ocean coast to just north of Daytona Beach and inland to Lake Okeechobee.

Florida urged to listen to authorities

“While this storm does not appear to be much stronger at this time, I urge all Floridians to be prepared and listen to announcements from local emergency management officials,” DeSantis said in a statement.

On the NHC’s website, it was shared that the storm is currently effective off the Bahama Islands and its speed has increased to a maximum of 75 kilometers, and that it will be effective in Florida, Georgia and North-South Carolina states, especially in Florida, from Wednesday to Friday.

At least 125 people were killed in Hurricane Ian on September 28

Florida had previously suffered the devastation of Hurricane Ian, which reached “category 4” on September 28, and according to local sources, at least 125 people lost their lives in the state due to the most severe hurricane since 1935.

In the state, where some of the debris caused by the hurricane has still not been cleared, there was an economic damage of nearly 50 billion dollars.
