In a statement made by the Kremlin Palace, it was stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin watched the exercise with nuclear weapons online.
“The ‘Yars’ intercontinental ballistic missile from the Plesetks spaceport and the ‘Sineva’ ballistic missile from the Barents Sea were launched to the Kura polygon in Kamchatka. Long-range aircraft of the ‘Tu-95MS’ type, which launch cruise missiles from the air, also took part in the exercise.”
Within the scope of the exercise, the level of readiness of military management and operational personnel was inspected, the statement said, “The objectives of the exercise of strategic deterrence forces were successfully achieved. All missiles reached the set targets, proving their characteristics.”
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu briefed Putin on the exercise.
The US State Department announced today that Russia had informed Washington that it would test nuclear weapons.
“This is a routine exercise that Russia is conducting. By informing us when Russia is making unprovoked aggressive nuclear threats, it removes the element of surprise and minimizes the risks of miscalculation.”
