The Liz Truss era has officially ended in the UK. Rishi Sunak became the new leader of the Conservative Party and the new Prime Minister of the country.
In the UK, former finance minister Rishi Sunak was elected as the new leader of the ruling Conservative Party.
Penny Mordaunt, the other prime ministerial candidate, withdrew from the race because she could not get the support of at least 100 of the party’s 357 MPs.
Sunak then won the election without a vote among MPs and party members.
At 42, Sunak will be the youngest prime minister in Britain’s modern history.
King Charles III is expected to give Sunak the task of forming the government as soon as possible.
Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced last night that he would not join the leadership race.
