Paul Pelosi, the husband of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose visit to Taiwan caused tension between the US and China, pleaded guilty to the charge against him in the case he was tried for causing an accident while driving under the influence.
Paul Pelosi appeared before the judge in the state of California in the case where he was tried for causing injury to a person in an accident while driving under the influence in May.
Pelosi, who pleaded guilty to the charges against him, had his 5-day prison sentence commuted to an 8-hour community service work program.
Paul Pelosi will also receive a rehabilitation program for drunk driving offenders for 3 months and will not be able to drive for 3 years.
The 82-year-old multimillionaire, who crashed his Porsche on May 28 in Oakville, California, was arrested for “driving under the influence”.
On the night of the accident, Pelosi allegedly gave her driver’s license and a card showing her donations to the California Highway Patrol, a charity that provides scholarships to children of police officers, to police officers who asked for her identification.
Pelosi was later released on $5,000 bail.
