“The washcloth is a useful invention”.

Washcloth instead of shower spray: Baden-Württemberg’s Minister President surprises us with a curious piece of advice on saving energy. And promptly earns criticism from other political camps.

In times of gas shortages and rising prices, Baden-Württemberg’s Minister President Winfried Kretschmann sees himself as an energy saver on the right track. “I have an electric car, I have a huge photovoltaic system on the roof,” the Green politician told the “Südwest Presse” (Friday).

He has been heating 70 percent of his water with solar energy for 25 years, he said, adding that he has also ordered a pellet heating system. Kretschmann’s tip: “We usually heat only one room,” he said. “It’s also healthier to not have the same temperature everywhere in the house.” Plus, he said, you don’t have to shower all the time. “The washcloth is also a useful invention,” Kretschmann advised.

Kretschmann immediately earns criticism for washcloth proposal
Only a few hours after his advance, Kretschmann reaped criticism. “If the state makes specifications for personal hygiene, then we have reached a level that is difficult to undercut,” FDP deputy chairman Wolfgang Kubicki told Bild.

If one thought Kretschmann’s proposal through to the end, “the family of four would then have to share water in the sink once in order to behave according to green energy-saving specifications,” Kubicki said.

Also the CDU energy expert and member of the Bundestag Maria Lena white criticized in the sheet “constantly new shower tips of the Greens”. And SPD Secretary-General Kevin Kühnert told the news portal t-online: “I find it weird when people with five-figure monthly incomes explain to others how to save.”
