US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said his country sees African countries as equal partners.
Blinken spoke at the University of Pretoria during his visit to the Republic of South Africa on August 7-8.
Speaking about the Africa policy of US President Joe Biden’s administration, Blinken drew attention to the importance his country attaches to Africa.
“The United States sees all 54 African countries as equal partners,” Blinken said.
Stating that the United States considers Sub-Saharan African countries as a major strategic power, Blinken said that his country wants to work with African nations as equal partners on economy, climate, energy, democracy and international relations.
Blinken’s Africa tour
Secretary Blinken’s tour of Africa, which began in Johannesburg on August 7th, includes 3 countries: the Republic of South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.
It is noteworthy that Blinken’s trip comes right after Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s African tour.
The position of African countries in favor of neutrality and dialogue in the Russia-Ukraine crisis is one of the important agenda items of this tour.
On the second leg of his African tour, Blinken will visit the Democratic Republic of Congo on August 9.
