YouTube is one of the leading video sharing platforms. The platform, where almost every video can be found, has been adopted by almost everyone. On a platform like YouTube, where there are so many users and content, fake accounts and spam are of course just as many. YouTube has also started to take new measures against these situations.
YouTube has listed measures for fraud and spam comments
The company announced on Twitter that it is working on three new measures against fake accounts impersonating content creators and spam comments. The first of these will be the removal of the ability to hide the number of subscribers. In addition, special characters in usernames will be restricted and comment moderation will be improved.
The removal of the ability to hide subscriber counts will hopefully prevent people from impersonating creators. YouTubers have complained about this issue. People who use the logo and name of their big channels are defrauding followers in this way. The feature to hide the number of subscribers will be removed on July 29.
YouTube is introducing the ‘Increase Discipline’ option for comment moderation. With this option, comments under content will be moderated in 100 different languages. Comments caught in this audit will be ‘held for review’. In order for the comments to appear under the video, they will need to be approved by the creator himself.
YouTube will also limit special characters to prevent fake channels. So a scammer will not be able to open a channel with a name like “blabla”. Although this example is very specific, malicious people can scam many people with small character changes.
YouTube has not yet announced when the special character restriction and comment moderation will be implemented. However, these features are expected to be available soon.
