The United Nations has announced that the safety of press workers is declining around the world. It was stated that this situation is reaching more dangerous dimensions day by day.
Addressing the plenary session of the 50th session of the UN Human Rights Council, UN Special Rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression Irene Han evaluated the attacks on journalists online and on the ground.

Referring to journalists killed while working in conflict zones, Han said, “Silencing journalists by killing them is the worst form of censorship.”
Emphasizing that gendered attacks on journalists online, digital stalking and mass lynching campaigns pose a major threat to the safety of journalists, Han emphasized that “press freedom and the safety of media workers continue to decline at a dangerous rate.”
Khan called on the Human Rights Council and the international community to take steps to prevent attacks on media workers on the ground and online and to ensure journalists’ immunity.
