NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover found garbage on the planet’s surface. The debris was found to be part of the thermal material wrapped around Perseverance to protect it from extreme weather changes during its landing on the Martian surface in 2021.
NASA’s “NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover” Twitter account posted about the trash found on the surface of Mars.
“My team noticed something unexpected”
It was shared that the material was parts of the thermal material wrapped on Perseverance to protect it from extreme weather changes during its landing on the surface of Mars in 2021.
“My team realized something unexpected: It’s a piece of a thermal blanket they thought might have come from my landing day in 2021, a jet pack powered by the rocket that brought me down.”
“It was a surprise to find it here”
The question of how the debris ended up in the area where it was discovered, about two kilometers from the original location of the landing gear, remains unanswered.
“This shiny piece of foil is part of a thermal blanket, a material used to control temperatures. It was a surprise to find it here: It was found about 2 km from my landing site. Did it land here after that, or did the wind blow it away?”
