In Greece, opposition MP Kleon Grigoriadis reacted against the Mitsotakis government. “You have made the country a huge US base,” said the Greek MP, adding that “now US soldiers, not Turkish soldiers, are in Crete, Alexandroupoli, Larisa.”
Kleon Grigoriadis, an MP from the opposition MeRA25 party in Greece, called Athens “You have made Greece a gigantic American base. Now they are using us as useful idiots,” he warned Athens:
“You have made Greece a huge American base. As a nation we must learn from history. And history tells us that great powers use small powers for their own private interests, without caring about the suffering that can be caused…”
“An atmosphere is being created as if war with Turkey is at the door”
The Greek MP pointed out that the media reports created the impression that a war with Turkey was imminent and said: “At the moment, US soldiers are in Crete, Alexandroupoli and Larisa, not Turkish soldiers.”
“They are scaring our citizens”
The Greek MP emphasized that this perception is used to instill fear in the public:
“The aim is to scare the citizens in order to make acceptable the fact that Greece is turning into an American base and the ‘so-called protector’ who will help us against the enemy.”
“Greece is to be included in a general war as a pawn of the US”
Greece, Grigoriadis said, is wanted to be included in a general war as a pawn of the United States.
Emphasizing that the Mitsotakis government was not acting transparently and did not provide enough information, the Greek MP said that they were only informed about the developments when the US authorities made statements.
