The official explanation for the disappearance of 2 US soldiers during the clashes in Ukraine came from Russia. Kremlin spokesman Peskov said that the US soldiers were mercenaries who endangered the lives of Russian soldiers and that they must take responsibility for their actions. Peskov stated that the two soldiers would not be considered as ‘prisoners of war’ and completely closed the way for legal remedies.

It is now certain that Russia has the US soldiers who disappeared in Kharkiv, Ukraine and have been wanted for days.

Robert Drueke, 39, and Andy Huynh, 27, both US citizens fighting on the Ukrainian side, disappeared in the fog created by a grenade thrown during a firefight in Kharkiv and were never found.

While US officials refrained from commenting on the issue, two days ago Russian state television broadcast footage of the missing soldiers.

US soldier Robert Drueke, who was seen in a room similar to an office, sent a message to his mother and said, “Mom, I just want you to know that I’m alive. I hope to be home as soon as possible. Love our dog Diesel for me. I love you.”

FIRST OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM RUSSIA: SOLDIERS IN OUR HANDS

Despite the footage, the US has said that the videos have not been verified and that there is no evidence that the soldiers are in Russian hands. However, the expected official statement came from Russia.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that the missing US soldiers have been arrested and are under official investigation.

PESKOV: IT IS CERTAIN THAT THEY COMMITTED A CRIME

Claiming that the soldiers in their hands were not volunteers but mercenaries, the spokesperson said, “These soldiers have been engaged in illegal activities on Ukrainian territory. They were involved in attacks on our military personnel.”

Referring to the international authorities’ call for a Geneva convention, Peskov said of the US soldiers, “The only thing that is certain is that they committed crimes.”

“These soldiers are not part of the Ukrainian Army, so they cannot be included in the Geneva Convention. Their crimes need to be investigated.”

Peskov did not say where the US soldiers are currently being held or where they will be tried.

THEY LEFT THE TEAM AND SURRENDERED

While the Ukrainian statement said that the soldiers had disappeared during the clash, Russian television claimed that the soldiers left the area during the clash and surrendered to the Russian patrol.

CONSECUTIVE WARNINGS FROM THE USA TO ITS CITIZENS: DO NOT TRAVEL TO UKARAYNA

Pentagon Spokesperson John Kirby stated in his latest statement that they could not confirm that two US citizens were missing in Ukraine, “If the allegation is true, we will do everything to find them. We are talking about a war zone. If you want to support Ukraine, there are safer ways to do that.”

US President Joe Biden also warned his citizens traveling to Ukraine, saying, “We don’t know where the missing soldiers are right now. But I want to reiterate: Americans should not go to Ukraine.”

Russia recently sentenced two British soldiers to death in a court of law after capturing them while fighting on the side of Ukraine. While the UK continues its diplomatic efforts for the extradition of its citizens, it is a matter of curiosity whether a similar decision will be made for the US soldiers.

Russia has blocked legal remedies for both British and US soldiers, stating that the Geneva Convention cannot be applied.

According to analyses in the Western media, with this move, Russia is trying to put pressure on the two countries that provide heavy arms aid to Ukraine with their own citizens.
