Following Turkey’s request, the United Nations changed the name of the country used as ‘Turkey’ in foreign languages to ‘Türkiye’.
UN Secretary-General Spokesman Stephane Dujarric told AA correspondent that they have received a letter from Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres requesting that Turkey’s name in foreign languages be changed to “Türkiye”.
Dujarric said the change of the country’s name was valid from the moment the letter was received.
Minister Çavuşoğlu also tweeted, “The process we started under the leadership of our President @RTErdogan to increase the brand value of our country is coming to an end. With the letter I sent to the UN Secretary-General today, we are registering the name of our country in foreign languages with the UN as “Türkiye”.
