India wants to rival all operating systems that dominate the industry, especially iOS and Android.
There are currently 2 parties dominating the market in the smartphone industry. One of them is the iOS operating system that Apple uses only on its own devices, while the other is known as Android, which Google shares with everyone and offers open source. According to the information, India wants to become the new power of the sector by developing its own operating system.
India begins work on new operating system
Indian Minister of State for Electronics and Informatics Rajeev Chandrasekhar said during an interview that the government is planning a policy to create a local mobile operating system. Chandrasekhar said they are exploring the capabilities of beginners and academic institutions to create this domestic operating system.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar said:
There is no third of the operating systems that dominate the market. Therefore, in many ways there is tremendous interest in MeitY and the Indian government in creating a new phone operating system. We talk to people. That’s why we’re looking at a policy.
BlackBerry 10, Bada OS, Tizen, Windows Phone and WebOS have been nominated for the mobile operating system throne in the last decade. But while they were all working for it, they were either crushed by their opponents, or they disappeared one by one by doing something wrong.
Of course, there are still a few active players in this field, such as KaiOS and Sailfish OS. It also features HarmonyOS, a new operating system that has been implemented thanks to U.S. embargoes, allowing Huawei to rank 3 thanks to its users in China. But this new system is said to be not so different from EMUI, which has been slightly modified on Android 10.
Therefore, if India can launch this new operating system in the next few years, it will have a great advantage to settle in 3rd place. But when we look at the overall user profile in India, we can see that their work is quite difficult.
The biggest reason for this is that in this country, where the input and middle segment are mostly sold, users of Android will be targeted rather than iOS. Therefore, in order to achieve this, they need to ensure that affordable devices and the low-quality hardware they bring with them work smoothly.
In addition, the 2nd big challenge will be application support. If any future Indian mobile operating system wants to gain a long-term place in the market, or even rival trillion-dollar companies, Google needs to be able to offer app support at least for a start.
