What do we know about the ‘Flurona’ disease, which was first seen in Israel?
In Israel, a pregnant woman was found to have influenza (flu) and a new type of coronavirus (Covid-19) at the same time, and this case, which was seen for the first time in the country, was named ‘Flurona’.
Of course, this development caused concern with the expectation that flu cases would increase during the winter months.
According to The Sun newspaper, it was learned that the pregnant woman in question survived the disease with mild symptoms.
What is Flurona and what are the symptoms?
Flurona is known as a double infection, which is a rare mix of influenza virus and coronavirus.
Influenza rates have declined globally since the beginning of the epidemic due to masks and social distancing.
But this winter, influenza cases are likely to rise as life returns to normal in many countries.
As the Omicron variant spreads rapidly around the world, more cases of double infections are likely to emerge, although its symptoms are milder and can be managed with vaccines.

Why did flurona appear?
Professor Arnon Vizhnitser, who took care of the patient in Israel, made the following statement on the subject;
“We did not see any cases of flu among pregnant women in the past year. Today, we see that both coronavirus and flu cases start to raise their heads. Dealing with a woman who has a fever during childbirth is definitely a huge challenge. You refer to it the same way, especially when you don’t know if it’s the coronavirus or the flu. Most of the disease is respiratory related.”
Is Flurona dangerous?
Professor Vizhnitser said that the patient did not have any severe or unusual symptoms, “As soon as he arrived at the hospital, he was diagnosed with flu and coronavirus. Even though we checked again, both tests came back positive. He said, “Both viruses have difficulty breathing because they attack the upper respiratory tract.”
The Israeli Ministry of Health reported that it is examining the case to determine whether the combination of the two infections could cause more serious illness.
But so far the Israeli woman has responded well to the treatments and has experienced only mild symptoms.
