Maximum contact restriction was requested in Germany due to the omicron variant of the new type of coronavirus (Covid-19).
In the statement made by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), responsible for combating epidemics, the strategy document for combating epidemics was updated and some measures were requested accordingly.
Emphasizing that the omicron variant can be transmitted very quickly in the strategy document, it was demanded to apply a maximum contact restriction until January 15, 2022, to continue the preventive measures, to reach the maximum vaccination rate, and to reduce unnecessary travels.
In the document, it was emphasized that if the dynamics of the approaching omicron wave did not slow down, a very high number of cases could be reached in a short time in the country and this could lead to overloading the health system in Germany.
The statement also warned against omicron, noted that the risk of those who received the reminder vaccine was moderate, the risk of those who were vaccinated with two doses and recovered was high, and the risk of those who were not vaccinated was very high.
Following the RKI, the Permanent Vaccination Commission (STIKO) announced that the waiting period for the reminder vaccine in the country was reduced from 6 months to 3 months.
