Russian opposition leader Navalny punished in 2 separate cases

Alexei Navalny, who was poisoned in Russia and was detained at the airport on his return to Moscow after being treated in Germany, and then was arrested today, has appeared before the judge for 2 separate cases. Navalny’s objection against the verdict of approximately 2 years and 8 months in prison at the hearing held on February 2 was evaluated. In the case held at Moscow Babushkinski Court, Navalny’s time spent under house arrest was deducted from the penalty and sentenced to 2 years and 5 months in prison. Navalny, whose imprisonment decision was upheld, was only able to get a reduction from the length of his stay, despite his objections. On the other hand, the Russian Ministry of Justice announced that it was officially appealed against the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), which announced the reversal of the prison sentence against Navalny.

Western countries’ diplomats followed the hearings

In the trial that took place in the afternoon, Navalny was tried for insulting the Russian soldier injured in World War II. Politicians, journalists and diplomats of western countries who supported the trial also followed. After Navalny was arrested, her fourth session was held, and Navalny said she learned how to cook pickled cucumbers and ice cream, again implying that she was afraid of being poisoned. While waiting for the decision, Navalny called out to his supporters, “Why are you so sad? I have a lot to say to you. I pickled cucumbers. “I salt the cucumbers in a bag and keep them waiting.”

Navalny also punished for defamation

In the case where witness statements were heard before, Navalny was sentenced for insulting Ignat Artemenko, who was injured during World War II. The prosecutor demanded that Navalny be fined 950 thousand rubles and 240 hours of public service. The court, on the other hand, stated that the crime of Navalny, who was proved to be insulting Artemenko, was fixed and ruled that Navalny was not sentenced to public service, but a fine of 850 thousand rubles (80 thousand TL).
