The U.S. Office of Commerce has announced that France will impose a 25 percent customs tax on French products worth around $ 1.3 billion in response to the digital service tax it imposes on some American technology companies.
In the statement published by the office on the subject, it was stated that the digital service tax implemented by France was a “discriminatory” application and restricted the US trade.
On the other hand, the declaration that it was decided to impose a 25 percent customs duty on the French product worth approximately 1.3 billion dollars, said the customs tariff will come into force on 6 January 2021.
The communiqué noted that products such as cosmetics and handbags will also be subject to the tariff in question.
Among the tax-affected companies in France are technology companies such as Google, Facebook, Apple and Amazon.
The United States defended that the tax brought by France was incompatible with international taxation policies and started an investigation on the grounds that it brought unfair taxes to the US companies.
