Harvey Weinstein‘s lawyer says the movie studio mogul convicted of sex crimes has been hospitalized in New York City, USA.

Arthur Aidala, Weinstein’s appellate lawyer, told the Associated Press on Saturday that Weinstein was transferred from an upstate New York jail to a Manhattan jail before being transferred to Bellevue Hospital in the city.

“They examined him and sent him to Bellevue. He seems to need a lot of help physically. He has a lot of problems. All kinds of tests are being done. He is in a terrible state health-wise,” Aidala said.

This news comes just days after a New York appeals court overturned Weinstein’s conviction for rape. The court found that the trial judge had made “egregious errors” by allowing prosecutors to call witnesses unrelated to the charges.

Weinstein was transferred to Rikers Island from Mohawk Correctional Facility, about 56 kilometers from Syracuse, on Friday afternoon after his 23-year prison sentence was overturned.

Weinstein, 72, will continue to be held in Los Angeles in 2022 for his conviction for rape.

It is not clear which health problems Aidala is referring to specifically. In an interview with AP, Aidala said Weinstein’s ailments were physical, not mental, adding that his client was “like a genie.”

Weinstein’s lawyers had previously stated that their client suffers from sleep apnea, heart problems, diabetes and eye problems.

“He was not treated well. They refused to give him even a sip of water, no food or toilet breaks.”

He’s a 72-year-old sick man.

According to his lawyer, Weinstein will undergo tests by doctors in Bellevue before returning to Rikers.

The famous movie studio boss is scheduled to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court on Wednesday.

It is unclear whether Weinstein will be retried in the state. “We will do everything in our power to get this case retried and remain committed to victims of sexual assault,” a spokesperson for the Manhattan State Attorney General’s Office told The Independent.
