King Charles III of England made a historic decision during Kate Middleton‘s battle with cancer to confer a new royal title on her. This step was recorded as an important milestone in terms of making Middleton the first royal family member to be appointed as a Royal Companion of the Order of the Royal Companions.
The King announced that he had conferred the title as an expression of his deep respect for Middleton. Middleton joins the likes of J.K. Rowling and Elton John as recipients of this prestigious decoration. The Order was established by King George V in 1917 to recognize long-term contributions to the arts, science, medicine and public service, and has adopted the motto ‘loyal in action and pure in honor’.
