NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg spoke at the opening of the first Foreign Ministers’ Meeting of the year at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Stoltenberg pointed out that this was the first meeting Sweden attended as a member and said that the main agenda would be the preparations for the NATO Summit in Washington in July.

“This summit will move forward our work to strengthen the terms of defense and ensure fair burden sharing. It will strengthen our support for Ukraine and deepen our cooperation with partners in the European Union (EU) as well as in the Asia-Pacific.”

The NATO Secretary General noted that the allies will also discuss how to resolve the instability in the Middle East, south of the Alliance.

The two-day meeting will be closed to the press.
