The clearest image of the human brain: Taken with the world’s most powerful MRI machine

France’s Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Authority (CEA) has released the clearest image of the human brain, obtained with the world’s most powerful magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device.

In a written statement made by the CEA, it was stated that the brain image taken with the MRI device called “Iseult” was obtained as a result of more than 20 years of work

Within the scope of the studies, the MRI device was tested on approximately 20 healthy volunteers in the last few months, and it was stated that the clearest brain image was obtained in almost 4 minutes.

In the statement, it was noted that the images taken in a short time with the Iseult MRI machine with 11.7 Tesla magnetic power could take hours to be obtained with devices commonly used in hospitals.

Nicolas Boulant, Head of the Iseult Project and CEA Research Director, said in a statement that the research will continue for several more years to ensure higher quality data.

Boulant stated that their goal is to research many diseases in the field of psychiatry such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder as well as neurodegenerative diseases by 2026-2030.

The ultra-detailed anatomical information obtained with the Iseult MRI device is expected to help diagnose diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
