Director Sam Raimi has finally responded to rumors of a return to the Spider-Man franchise, saying he has no such project currently planned.
Ever since he reprised his old role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought actor Tobey Maguire back to the Marvel Universe and put him in the same universe as the others, and Raimi directed Doctor Strange: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans have been begging to know if they would be reunited in the 4th Spider-Man movie.
Speaking to CBR at WonderCon, Raimi said that he had heard rumors of a Spider-Man 4, but wasn’t sure if Marvel would be interested.
Raimi said, “I’ve read them too, but I’m not working on them yet.”
I mean, Marvel and Columbia are doing very well with Spider-Man right now and where it’s going. I don’t know if they’ll come back to me and say, “Okay, guys, we can tell this story.” I’m not sure. But I love all the new Spider-Man movies. I loved Spider-Man: No Homecoming. It was really moving to see Tobey back in there.
Raimi directed Spider-Man in 2002, followed by Spider-Man 2 in 2004 and Spider-Man 3 in 2007. These films starred Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson. In 2022, the filmmaker will direct Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse Madness in 2022, the filmmaker returned to the Marvel Universe.

On whether Maguire would be up for a fourth movie, he said:
I haven’t talked to Tobey about it, but maybe Marvel or Columbia Pictures has. But I worked with Marvel recently on Doctor Strange: In Multiverse Madness, so I have a very good relationship with them. If something like that was being planned, I would definitely know about it. I think it would have been. I don’t know.
Fans have good reason to hope for a fourth Spider-Man movie. In an interview with ComicBook in 2022, Raimi said he was open to working with Maguire and Dunst again.
Raimi said, “After making Doctor Strange, I realized that anything is possible in the Marvel universe, any kind of team can be created.”
I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think anything is possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in it right now. I don’t know what they’re thinking about it. I haven’t really pursued it, but it sounds great. Even if it’s not a Spider-Man movie, I would love to work with Tobey again in a different role.
