US technology company Google fired an engineer who protested against Israel at a technology event in New York.
In a statement, a Google spokesperson said that earlier this week an employee interrupted an official event sponsored by the company and prevented a colleague from speaking during a presentation.
“Whatever the issue, this behavior is not acceptable and the employee was terminated for violating our policies,” the statement said.
At the event in New York on Monday, a Google Cloud engineer interrupted an Israeli executive’s speech by saying, “I refuse to build technology that empowers genocide, apartheid or surveillance.”
