The US announced sanctions against the owners of two ships based in Hong Kong and the Marshall Islands for financing the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.
The US Treasury Department made a written statement regarding the sanctions imposed by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
The statement said sanctions were imposed on the owners of two vessels based in Hong Kong and the Marshall Islands and that these vessels were identified as assets to be blocked.
It was stated that the sanction was imposed on the grounds that they were transferring “on behalf of the Iran-based Said al Jamal network, which provides financial support to the Houthis”, and that the US will continue to take measures “to cut off the sources of financing that enable destabilizing activities”.
