Sofia Boutella spoke about the negative reviews of Zack Snyder‘s sci-fi epic Rebel Moon.
The first part of Snyder’s two-part intergalactic story was released on Netflix on December 22, 2023. The movie, which tells the story of a group of resistance fighters who take a stand against the fascist regime, was slammed by critics.
He will return with a sequel
Even though Zack Snyder’s big-budget sci-fi movie received poor reviews, the series will continue with Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver.
Boutella explained to Vulture how she views the harsh reactions following the release of Rebel Moon.
In an interview titled “The action Sofia Boutella wants to see”, the Algerian actress said that although she was initially prepared for criticism, the harsh comments overwhelmed her a bit.
Described by Vulture as “the busiest woman in the genre”, the 41-year-old actress has made it clear that she is proud to be part of the team.
“I always thought I was strong enough to withstand these punches,” the actress said, describing her experience as follows:
But then I read the reviews of Rebel Moon and it really affected me. I’ll be honest about it, I feel like I have this responsibility for everyone who cares so much about this project, and that’s what affected me.
“It’s very hard to see something destroyed to this extent”
Reminding that the comments against her were not bad, the actress continued her words as follows:
I was actually lucky and people liked what I put out, but the movie was criticized. This really affected me on behalf of everyone who put their heart and effort into the project. It’s very hard to see something destroyed to that extent. I’m proud to have been a part of it and it will be a very important part of my life that I will defend forever.
Many critics liked Snyder’s visuals and the foundations he laid for the franchise’s world. The movie topped Netflix’s most-watched list in its first week, but it soon fell gradually.
More than 78 million views
Some movie writers called it “an ugly, unforgivably boring and self-serious mess”.
As of January 2024, the future of the franchise seems safe for now, after the movie has already achieved 78 million views despite the bad reviews it has received.
Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver will be released on Netflix on April 19.
