Annual inflation in the Eurozone was 2.6 percent in February

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the Eurozone was announced as 2.6 percent on an annual basis in February.

The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) published the Eurozone’s leading inflation data for February.

According to the data, annual inflation in the Eurozone, which was 2.8 percent in January, was determined as 2.6 percent in February. CPI was 0.6 percent in February compared to the previous month.

Market expectations were for annual inflation to be 2.5 percent in the Eurozone in February, and it was noteworthy that the data announced was higher than market expectations.

Looking at the main components of inflation, the highest annual inflation was realized in food, alcohol and tobacco products with 4 percent. Food was followed by services with 3.9 percent and non-energy industrial products with 1.6 percent, while energy products decreased by 3.7 percent.

Core inflation in the Eurozone was measured at 3.1 percent annually and 0.7 percent monthly in February.

According to EU harmonized data, inflation was 2.7 percent in Germany, 3.1 percent in France, 0.9 percent in Italy and 2.9 percent in Spain in February.
