Canadian mining company First Phosphate announced that it has reached a significant milestone in its efforts to enter the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery industry. The company has successfully completed a pilot project to convert high purity phosphate concentrate into battery-grade purified phosphoric acid.
CEO John Passalacqua said Prayon Technologies SA played a critical role in this success and contributed greatly to the conversion of phosphate concentrate into high quality commercial phosphate acid.
Prayon then completed the second stage by converting commercial phosphate acid into purified phosphoric acid (PPA) according to its own food and battery grade specifications. PPA samples will be available on request to selected customers for a nominal fee.
With this development, First Phosphate is ready to collaborate with its partners to pilot the production of LFP battery cathode active material and LFP battery cells with fully North American sourced battery grade PPA.
