Stranger Things actor Gaten Matarazzo has filed a complaint about the show as he nears the end of his role in the series.
The actor, who has played Dustin Henderson in the Netflix series since its first season, made candid statements about the series, which is approaching its 5th and final season.
During the Season 4 premiere, years after co-stars Millie Bobby Brown and Noah Schnapp criticized the show and the Duffer Brothers, the show’s showrunners, responded, Materazzo shared a similar perspective as the final episodes approached and spoke about things that could change.
Speaking at an event for fans of the series, Matarazzo said the following, CBR reported
This may sound terrible, but we should kill more people in the show.
According to the outlet, the actor said:
The sense of danger in the show is much higher and this show would be much better if something could happen to any child at any time. I feel like we’re all very safe.
In July 2022, 4 seasons of Stranger Things ended with episodes in which none of the main characters were killed off. This led to criticism of the Duffer Brothers, who were responsible for the series.
Schnapp, who played Will Byers in May 2023, told TheWrap
They need to kill a few people. It’s too crowded.
During the same interview, Brown, who plays Eleven, also took the floor and added the following:
You’re right. The cast has gotten so big. We couldn’t even take a group photo last night because there were about 50 of us. I thought, ‘I think you should start killing characters.
And Schnapp said:
They just need a scene of carnage.
Brown continued:
That’s what I’m saying. The Duffer Brothers are just two wimps who don’t want to kill anybody. We need to be like Game of Thrones. We need to have the Game of Thrones mentality.
He then made a request to the creators, saying, “Kill me.”
They tried to kill David [Harbour] and then they brought him back. It’s ridiculous.
Series co-creator Matt Duffer responded to Brown’s criticisms in a podcast, telling the host in a defeated “we heard” when the actor’s comments were mentioned.
Stranger Things is available to watch on Netflix. The series will end in 2024 with its 5th and final season.
