Already available in the Chinese market, OnePlus this week launched the 12 and 12R models to the international market, especially the US market, which is less competitive and dominated by Apple and Samsung. With an $800 budget, it’s possible to get a true flagship phone with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This phone offers 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage thanks to a free upgrade and comes with a 6.82-inch LTPO display with QHD+ resolution.

The camera hardware is impressive, with a 50MP main, 64MP 3x telephoto and 48MP ultra-wide-angle lenses, as well as a 32MP high-resolution front-facing camera. However, daylight video recording could be a little better. Our only criticism is that the phone has an IP65 water resistance rating, which falls short of the IP68 standard that even some mid-segment phones have. Also this year, there’s 50W wireless charging for the 5,400mAh battery, with support for up to 80W on wired charging.
OnePlus 12 and 12R are on pre-order, here are the details!
For those looking for a more affordable alternative, the OnePlus 12R model is also available. This model steps up to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, but it’s still pretty fast. Its 6.78-inch display is slightly lower in terms of resolution; it offers 1,264 x 2,780 pixels, a value between FHD+ and QHD+. As for the camera hardware, the main camera has a smaller sensor and 50MP resolution, with only an 8MP ultra-wide angle lens and no telephoto lens. The 5,500mAh battery only supports 80W wired charging.
These new models from OnePlus offer remarkable options compared to the Samsung Galaxy S24 series. Especially with Amazon and Best Buy offering gift cards and free storage upgrades, the prices are more attractive. However, it is possible to get a Galaxy S24 with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage with a budget of 800 dollars; if a gift card is considered, the price drops to 750 dollars. The Galaxy S24 Ultra model, on the other hand, offers superior performance, especially in video recording (including 4K 120fps and 8K modes), and the $200 gift card from Amazon alleviates the cost a bit.
