Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated that he finds the ideas of a possible ceasefire in Ukraine wrong and that the conflict in Ukraine strengthens the Transatlantic union.
Joseph Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has called the idea of a reconciliation of the parties to the conflict in Ukraine wrong.
In an op-ed for a French magazine, Borrell said.

“Instead of seeking compromise, we should remember the lessons we have learned since 2022 and redouble our efforts in the areas where we have been successful to avoid repeating mistakes,” Borrell wrote in his article, adding that no one can seriously believe that Russia is ‘seeking a compromise’ in the current situation.
Borrell said that the conflict in Ukraine has strengthened ‘transatlantic unity’, noting that the EU has provided Ukraine with a total of around 30 billion euros worth of support and trained around 40,000 Ukrainian military personnel on the territory of the union.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that it was the West that should talk about the conditions for ending the conflict in Ukraine, not the West, which is not interested in this issue, and also drew attention to the remarks of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who said that he did not see ‘any close prospects’ for negotiations even for a long-term ceasefire in Ukraine.
